EYE ON RECRUITING: Doral Academy Looks To Stay In The Mix

If you have followed us long enough, you already know that very few promote EVERY and Broward Counties – at ALL levels.

With that in mind, colleges coaches from Hawaii to Maine and every in between keep an eye on what we produce.

We have never been in this to sell subscriptions or spotlight star-rated athletes. This is ALL about getting prospect information out to colleges and universities at every level.

With that said – and you know what we do and why we are here 365 days a year going to events, practices, camps, combines, and games and NOT sitting behind a computer – we will spend this off-season getting everyone promoted.

For over a half century, we have been honored to help football prospects across the state of Florida get some well-deserved recognition.

We not only put these prospects on this website for all fans to see and follow, but all the information that is provided to us is passed on to the over 500 college coaches that are part of our recruiting coverage. Today’s EYE ON RECRUITING will be on Doral Academy Preparatory School (@DoralAcademy_FB) with head coach Eddie Delgado, whose Firebirds are looking to continue to build a winning program with several younger prospects.

Coach Delgado can be reached at 305-597-9950 or www.doralacademyprep.org.

Second Annual Tutu Atwell Jr. Foundation Camp & 7-on-7 This Weekend

Second Annual Tutu Atwell Jr. Foundation Camp & 7-on-7 This Weekend

If you haven’t made your plans for this weekend, here is an option to consider.

For the second consecutive year, The Tutu Atwell Jr. Foundation will be hosting a Junior Sports Camp and a high school 7-on-7 tournament at Charles Hadley Park in Miami.

The sports camp, which attracted hundreds of youngsters a year ago, will once again take center stage as boys and girls will participate in all sports with Atwell and several NFL players on hand.

The event will take place tomorrow (Saturday July 8th) with registration starting at 9 a.m. – and a meet and greet and introductions from 10-11. The camp will run from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. and lunch is included.

BIG TIME SCHOOLS HEAD TO LIBERTY CITY

Last year, when the first annual high school 7-on-7 events was held, programs from Miami-Dade and Broward came out to compete as Atwell, a Miami Northwestern product and Los Angeles Rams standout, made sure there was plenty of talent on hand.

On Saturday and Sunday, the stakes will rise as fans, coaches and NFL players will check out the future of the sport with a talent-filled football showcase, getting started at 1 p.m. on two fields.

With the winning school taking home $5,000 for their program, you know that the competition will be heated and loaded with some of the finest football talent in the nation at one facility.

Among the schools expected to be on hand includes Atwell’s Bulls of Miami Northwestern, national power Miami Central (Jube Joseph), Miami Carol City (Vernon Wilder III), Miami Jackson (John Harris), Miami Killian (Bryce Bishop), Miami Booker T. Washington (Tim “Ice” Harris), Homestead (Ronnie Thornton), Hialeah American (Tim Neal), Miami Norland (Darryl Heidelburg) and Miami Lakes Barbara Goleman (Ariel Cribeiro) from Miami-Dade County, national and state power Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna (Dameon Jones) and Miramar (A.J. Scott) representing Broward County, and one time Hialeah Champagnat Catholic head coach Hector Clavijo, who brings his talented Lantana Santaluces Chiefs from Palm Beach County.

“We are excited for the entire day,” Atwell said. “To give back to the community is something I have always dreamed of doing and now we are making it a yearly reality.”

Charles Hadley Park and the popular Liberty City Optimist is located at 1350 N.W. 50th street in Miami (33142). www.tutuatwellcamp.eventbrite.com.

5 Under The Radar Prospects To Watch in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties

If you follow us throughout the course of a year the one thing that we do is promote.

It does not matter what class or status of the athlete; our objective is to get the prospects out there for the hundreds and hundreds of college coaches who follow.

The month of July is tough on all athletes. NCAA member schools are closed up until the final week, so getting any kind of exposure is much tougher.

Over the next few weeks, we will get rising football talent out so college coaches can at least see the name and view the video link. There is no guarantee that student/athletes will get recognized, but it is part of the process.

Today, we bring you five football players to keep an eye on:

2024 – Maximus Garland, WR, 6-1, 160, Miami Sunset. While the Knights don’t play at a level where they are in the spotlight every week, there sometimes feature some talent that have the ability to steal the show. This pass catcher is indeed one of those impressive players who dominates – not only as a receiver but can make plays in the defensive secondary. Keep your eyes on this under the radar talent who is ready to emerge.

TAPE: https://www.hudl.com/profile/15555028/Maximus-Garland

2024 – Ben Joseph, DB, 6-2, 175, Hollywood McArthur. From Flanagan to briefly at Miami Norland and now with the Mustangs, this is a really good football prospect who can play three positions in the secondary. Not only is he physical and can play the safety position, this is also a talented and athletic cornerback. This will be a be a huge year for him as college coaches will continue to watch his progress. He also happens to hold down a 3.8 GPA in the classroom.

TAPE: https://www.hudl.com/profile/16746169/Ben-Joseph

2026 – Omari McNeal, QB, 6-0, 165, Pompano Beach Blanche Ely. The Tigers are excited about the upcoming season for a number of reasons, and with a new offensive coordinator, weapons and this young man, this already promises to be a tremendous season. His ability to read defenses for a sophomore is impressive to say the least. A combination of moving the chains with his feet and with his arm certainly gives this program an opportunity to be very special on offense this season.

TAPE: https://www.hudl.com/profile/16403448/Omari-McNeal

2024 – Horace Snelling, LB, 5-11, 185, Miami High. Yet another gifted football player who makes his way to play for the Stingarees this season from Miami Carol City. A very aggressive football player who is solid against the run as well as being able to drop into pass coverage. He is quick, strong and instinctive. College coaches need to keep an eye on his progress.

TAPE: https://www.hudl.com/profile/18270913/Horace-Snelling-Jr

2024 – Bryce Stringer, DL, 6-3, 220, Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna. College coaches really need to wake up with this young man. We have put him out there for the past two years and all he does is make plays. A solid football talent who works as hard as anyone, and while the Lions are always in the spotlight, for some reason not enough attention is being paid to this quality football talent. He is quick, strong and very smart. Blocking him off the edge is nearly impossible, often creating a double team and taking away an offensive lineman from doing his job.

5th Element Tale Home Los Reyos Miami 7-on-7 Title

When the calendar reached the end of June, it ended a month that was filled with college visits, combines, camps and 7-on-7 events.

As NCAA member schools have closed things down for the month of July, it opened the door for local and regional events to do their own thing.

As many rush to south Florida to capitalize on the many athletes and teams who want to continue getting better and staying in football shape, there are a number of things to keep everyone busy.

Last Saturday, St. Brendan High School in west Miami was the place to be for a 7-on-7 and line camp that produced winners and gave those taking part a chance to pick up some gear and stay in shape on a day where heat, humidity and rain took center stage.

As many sponsors want to be part of getting involved with student/athletes, Los Reyos Miami (LosReyes – LosReyes Apparel, LLC (sunglasseslosreyes.com)) rolled out the red carpet with their newest style of sunglasses that all the teams who took part had the opportunity to check out.

While the linemen competed in the afternoon, the early part of the day belonged to five local 7-on-7 teams. Among those taking place were Miami High, Hollywood McArthur, the Miami Titans and the 5th Element, a group of standouts from various high school in the region.

When the day had ended it was the 5th Element team, coaches by Head Coach Lamar Tunechi Robbins Aka “Coach 6”, OC: Marcus Simmons (founder) and Pablo Padron and defensive coordinator Coach Simmons, who gave of their time make sure that several players had the chance to compete.

With south Florida prospects competing throughout the day, it was the 5th Element that stood tall at the end of the tournament.

The 5th Element squad included Alonzo Bryant (Rise Prep Academy), Aloni Bryant (Rise Prep Academy),

Tymer Cooper Jr, and Antwone Francois (Miami Southridge) as well as young teammates Willie Wilson and Humberto Serrano from Somerset Silver Palms.

Other players taking part were Marquis Williams (Miami Gulliver Prep), Johan Guerra (Miami Felix Varela), Malik Penson (Miami Southridge), Miami Belen Jesuit two-sport star Bryce Fitzgerald, Jerell Jordan (South Dade), Homestead Class of 2025 nationally rated receiver Cortez Mills, and Kamaul King and Lamari Simmons (Miami True North Classical Academy).

The team also had prospects Javier Moss (Miami Palmetto), Nickolas Rispa and Anthony Rozier (Somerset Academy) High School and fast-rising Class of 2028 quarterback Anthony Vera, who starred for the West Kendall Dolphins 13U.

MORE TALENT ON DISPLAY

As Miami High first year head coach Dorrean James and McArthur veteran head coach Kevin Burnett brought many of their prospects to the event, other familiar players also attended.

The biggest name on hand was quarterback Austin Simmons, who is headed to the University of Mississippi this week. McArthur defensive backs Ben Joseph and Adonis Ferguson, and receiver Elijah McDowell among others, Miami Westminster Christian standout Malachi Keels and Jhakari Johnson (Southridge).

Miami High also brought talented young men in Zion Cherry, Horace Snelling and Jaiden Henry to mention a few.
