South Miami Continues To Build

When he took over the job at South Miami a few years back, Arties Knight knew his work would definitely be cut out for him.

But while the program had to do nearly a total rebuild, the veteran coach realized that the one thing he had in his pocket was the fact at the youth football level – especially in south Miami Dade – he was indeed respected and looked upon by athletes, coaches and parents as someone who has helped to not only teach the game of football, but also lessons in life.

Building a football program has taken a backseat to building character and continue to turn these young men into productive members of society as well as developing positive habits in the classroom.

Coming off a 5-4 season, the task continues and developing on and off the playing field is a process that continues – and while every student/athletes doesn’t have a 4.0 in the classroom, the ground is set each and every day.

With a talented senior class getting ready to move on, the underclass is now taking the spotlight and accepting the leadership that was left to them by the Class of 2023.

While there is still a long way to go progress is being made as this spring will help fill in the gaps for a number of prospects who still need to have some film for college coaches to get a look at.

5 Miami-Dade/Broward Class of 2026 Elite Prospects

Each and every week we bring you prospects from Miami-Dade and Broward Counties to keep an eye on.

These football players are not all high-rated star talent, but prospects who are making some noise as they look to attract college attention.

Since last January, we have watched more football talent LIVE than any other source. Something that college coaches and players have noticed – seeing us at camps, combines, 7-on-7 events and at over 80 live games this past season, including seven in the first week of the state playoffs.

Because we watch film as an enhancement, it gives us a huge advantage when it comes to evaluating and ranking.

From Pensacola to the Florida Keys we have been able and fortunate to see football talent in every class, giving us a chance to compare talent against other prospects that are highly-rated.

While we have been called “old school” and “outdate” by a few who nobody ever sees at any events, the proof of what we have done for six decades is the following we have with college coaches and recruiting services. We point that out only to let those who are new to this recruiting process understand what we do and will continue to.

Spotlighting players year-round, we have the opportunity to tell you a little but about each and every football player.

Today, we look at five players from the rising sophomore class (2026) that we have watched at camps, combines, practices and in games.

This is a group that everyone knows about and will continue to watch their stock rise in the coming years:

Jabari Brady, WR, 6-3, 185, Coconut Creek Monarch. After a stellar youth career, this impressive talent made his high school debut last summer with head coach Calvin Davis and his Knights at the Keiser University 7-on-7 event where he had the opportunity to showcase his many skills with his new teammates as well as college coaches and recruiting services, seeing him perform for the first time.

TAPE: https://www.hudl.com/video/3/14832320/61cb5dc1a681600558325542

Justice Fitzpatrick, DB/WR, 5-10, 175, Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas. While the state media and recruiting services had the opportunity to watch him play for the first time in the state title game against Homestead, this is a gifted young man who had been turning heads all season – especially with his coaching staff – including head coach Roger Harriott, who has been impressed from the beginning. Definitely will be a prospect that everyone will be watching over the next three years as he continues to mature.

TAPE: https://www.hudl.com/profile/17955822/Justice-Fitzpatrick

Calvin Russell, WR/QB, 6-5, 176, Miami Northwestern. When he first popped into the spotlight as a freshman, it came as a quarterback for the Bulls as he was called upon in an emergency situation. What this impressive athlete, who is regarded as a top-flight basketball prospect and receiver, did was turn heads and prove that his athleticism goes way beyond just one position. He has a chance to become on the of the nation’s top players over the next three years for head coach Max Edwards and his always talented team.

TAPE: https://www.hudl.com/profile/17878157/Calvin-Russell

Malachi Toney, WR, 5-10, 170, Plantation American Heritage. From the opening game of the season on national TV (ESPN2) against Los Alamitos, California in the Broward County Football Showcase right through a season that took first year head coach Mike Smith to the state title game, this was one of those most dynamic football players you will ever see. Forget the fact that he was starting at the varsity level as a freshman, this quality talent took over games on a team loaded with elite talent. Could turn out to be one of the best nationally in this class!

TAPE: https://www.hudl.com/profile/17530655/Keenyi-Pepe

Kerby Vital, OL, 6-0, 250, Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna. When you start on the offensive line as a freshman for a team that is regarded as one of the best in the country, you know that you indeed have something special. Picking up so much from the seniors he played with and a coaching that is regarded as one of the best in the state, here is someone who has emerged as a player to watch for head coach Dameon Jones and the Lions. His opportunity to become a leader up front will continue to unfold in the coming years as this program seeks a record eighth consecutive state championship appearance.

Goleman 2023 Prospects Are Ready For College

It has been said that the success of south Florida’s high school football athletes on the field has hurt them when it comes to recruiting.

In a day where the transfer portal has made recruiting high school athletes tougher than ever, the talent that flows from Miami-Dade and Broward County schools has come to a point where there are far more athletes, who are qualified than colleges and universities to house them.

The sad thing about recruiting is we tell our student/athletes that if you get it done in the classroom everything will play out.

While the clock is ticking on this current class, there is still time for these young men to find a situation where financial aid will be provided to make the dream of getting a college education and still play the sport they love.

We have been trying to assist student/athletes in this process for years, and sending education and athletic information on to colleges and universities across the country.

Over the past decade, we assisted in over $10 million of financial aid packages and exposure to student/athletes across the Sunshine State – using our contacts that have been built up for a half century along with the exposure we provide for schools year round.

Today we take a look at qualified seniors in the Class of 2023 from Hialeah Barbara Golemen – with head coach Ariel Cribeiro (@ACribeiro3). Remember we provide this service FREE of charge, knowing that it is never easy to do things like this for yourself.

This week many high school coaches are attending the college coaching convention in North Carolina, which is a face-to-face meeting with coaches from across the nation. While we do our best work from our home base, and find no need to travel to meet college coaches that we talk to the entire year.

Here is a look at 12 student/athletes who have worked hard – and deserve a chance. The information that we put out for our fans has also been sent to nearly 800 college coaches at every level with additional evaluation material along with it.

St. Brendan Continues To Build

While it would be easy to judge Miami St. Brendan for the first-round loss to four-time defending state champion Miami Central, the real story of this program is what they have accomplished in a short period of time.

Remember, the Sabres have only played football for five years now and in the that time, have produced some quality talent.

When Steve Smith took over two years ago, he was faced with a total rebuild, and with a 7-4 season this past year, he is starting to get things back on track when this program had up to five major college prospects who moved on.

Faced with turning things around, Coach Smith, who has built programs and developed players for decades, never complained once and he had e every reason to – having to play freshmen and sophomores before they were ready and it has begun to pay off.

As we are now in the off-season and college coaches will be following the continued development of these prospects, here is a look at some of the talent to keep an eye on:

RISING SENIOR CLASS HAS TALENT.
The nucleus of this program as we are now at the start of the new year is to use some of rising senior class (2024) for leadership and experience. Here is a look at those gifted prospects to watch:

Widley Jean Francois, RB, 5-9, 185.

Terrell Franklin, DB, 5-10, 180.

Eric Youman, WR, 6-0, 170.

HOW BRIGHT IS THE FUTURE?

Part of the rebuilding process is to continue to develop young talent, and the Sabres are doing that – especially with the rising junior (2025) class.

Here is a look at some of those standouts:

Nick Castro, WR, 6-2, 175.

Bernard Oliva, DL/OL, 6-3, 250.

The Class of 2026 also has some promising rising sophomores as well:

Public vs. Private All-Star Game Opens Up Recruiting Avenues

While south Florida is known as one of the most talented regions in the nation for producing high school football talent, it can also work against the area as well.

Because there are so many prospects, finding a home for all of them is never easy – and that is sometimes a problem.

To compound the situation, the transfer portal and NIL (Name, Image & Likeness) have also cut into players getting that exposure needed to at least get some kind of financial assistance to get a college education an play at the next level.

While playing a full a season used to be enough to get the exposure needed, something extra is always something that truly aids in the process. Enter the annual post season Private vs. Public All-Star Game.

For over a decade, Mario Smith and his TRU Foundation have stepped up to give south Florida student/athletes that one additional exposure.

On Saturday night, nearly 100 prospects gathered at Betty T. Ferguson Park for another edition of the game, and by the end, the Private team stood tall with a 22-8 win.

With the teams playing in front of media, colleges and scouting services, this well played event showcased some impressive talent – with Miami Gardens TRU Prep running back Clay Thevenin stepping up with a huge game and taking home the Offensive MVP and Belle Glade Glades Central linebacker Casey Felton Jr., coming up big all game and taking home the Defensive MVP award.

Several south Florida football players enjoyed the week of practice and made their final high school game very special.

“This is an annual game that really helps many of these players get that one final chance to have some more film to send to players,” Smith explained. “In the past, this game was a forum for many prospects to live their dream and play at the next level while getting a college education.”

A game like this is a perfect opportunity for smaller colleges to fill their rosters for the upcoming years. Because of their limited budget it is never easy to get to every game and see every player, but this all-star game opens some new avenues.

In addition to Thevenin and Felton Jr., here are some of the other players who took part on Saturday:
