Five Miami-Dade, Broward Prospects To Watch

It’s Wednesday and that means only one thing. Shining the spotlight on Miami-Dade and Broward prospects.

While we continue to promote athletes throughout the year, during the season, we bring you football talent that is getting it done, helping their respective programs compete.

Today, as we do each week, is bring you five prospects to keep an eye on. Some you may have already watched – while others may be new to you.

2025 - Dayen Marouf Araibi, OL, 6-3, 280, Plantation American Heritage. Here is a very talented prospect that we have talked about several times over the past two years, and now as he is fully into his senior season, you can see growth, maturity and someone who is one of the anchors of an offensive line that has a chance to be as good as any in this state. The Patriots, even in the loss to Chaminade-Madonna, showed how they can protect the passers and open holes for the running game. This young man is indeed solid. In addition to football, where he can lineup at all of the line positions, he also participates in wrestling.

2026 – Luc Carroll, WR, 6-1, 190, Miami Gulliver Prep. The son of one-time University of Miami and NFL receiver, Wesley Carroll, is certainly following in the footsteps. His size, athletic ability and route running has given him a huge advantage. Even as the Raiders are going through a rebuilding process, this is one of the players that opposing teams need to prepare for. In addition to football, he is also a track athlete and maintains a 3.6 GPA in the classroom.

2026 – Noah Sidan, PK/P, 5-11, 175, Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna. What more can say about someone who has been kicking a football for less than two years, but found a way – in 2023 – as a member of Miami Norland 2M state final team to hit two game-winning field goals against power Miami Central. In last week’s thrilling 48-45 win against Plantation American Heritage, he found a way to hit the winning field goal with time running out. If his work as a special teams standout doesn’t catch the attention of colleges coaches, his 4.0 GPA in the classroom will enhance his recruitment.

2025 – Justin St.-Ange, LB, 5-10, 190, Fort Lauderdale Archbishop McCarthy. Sometimes college coaches miss out on some of the better talent because they don’t have a reason to see some programs and that happens to a lot of players. But now as his senior season is here, this tackling machine has started to thrust himself into the spotlight as the Mavericks, who had been independent the past few years, are now a 4A team that will get plenty of exposure – especially with their current 13-game winning streak – the longest in south Florida. His work on the football field in only enhanced by his work (3.2 GPA) in the classroom.

2026 – Geovanni Tobon, RB/Slot, 5-8, 175, Miami St. Brendan. In south Florida it is easy to get lost in the shuffle, so when you have the chance to jump into that spotlight, you make the most of your chance. This is easily one of the under-the-radar football prospects that started his junior season with a bang, having the opportunity to showcase his skills as a runner and a potential slot receiver at the next level. Keep your eye on this quick and elusive athlete this season and again in 2025.

Week 4 – Things Are Getting Very Interesting

It’s hard to believe that we are now four weeks into the football season here in south Florida and things are starting to take shape.

Because many of the powers play each other this year, each week will see a shift in rankings, and that is something that fans, players and coaches all embrace.

If you follow what we do over the course of a season, each week we adjust the rankings, and while many want to see their teams in the spotlight, the only ranking that truly counts is the one that comes out in late December.

This is just an opinion based on seeing teams and having a valid ground to compare.

Chaminade-Madonna & American Heritage Put On A Show

Last season, as a sophomore, Noah Sidan was called upon to boost the Miami Norland Vikings to a pair of overtime wins against national power Miami Central. The first-year kicker made good twice as the Vikings advanced to the 2M state finals, losing to Tampa Berkeley Prep and finishing 14-1.

Last Friday night – now as a member of national powerhouse Hollywood Chaminade – history repeated itself as the junior ended one of the most exciting games in a long time as the Lions knocked off visiting Plantation American Heritage, 48-45, for the third straight year.

While that kick ended the game for head coach Dameon Jones and his team, it was another of the many things that went on as two of the best teams in the state, who have gotten off to a disappointing 1-2, put on quite a show before a packed house at the legendary Vince Zappone Field.

As there were many story lines in this game – with elite talent on both sides of the ball, perhaps the one that stood out most was senior quarterback Preston Wright.

As a starter the past two years for coach John Brantley and Ocala Trinity Catholic in the 1M state title game, Wright and his family moved to south Florida and attended Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons, where he played in the spring but was not chosen as a starter. He made the move to Chaminade-Madonna – again as a backup, and when team added another quarterback, he was once again a third-team player, but the 6-2, 200-pounder never said a word and believed that his athletic ability (baseball player as well) would one day pay off.

On Friday night, it paid off as the Lions saw one quarterback (sophomore Zac Katz) leave the school two weeks ago – and the other (sophomore Tyler Chance) injured when the Lions were upset at Pompano Beach Blanche Ely. Enter Wright.

As the Lions were cautious about what game plan they put in against the Patriots, Wright never wavered, knowing that he had more big game experience than anyone on the field.

All Wright did in this evenly matched game was step up, completing 27 of 42 passes for 461 yards and throwing four touchdown passes and no interceptions. All those camps, combines and events that he has attended – away from the spotlight the past three years – finally paid off, and while it would have been easy for him to openly be frustrated, he never said a word.

While Wright was doing his things, versatile senior receiver Koby Howard and junior receiver Jasen “J-Roc” Lopez, one of the best kept secrets in the state, came up huge. Lopez, who came from Miami True North Classical Academy this year, caught 11 passes for 243 yards.

As good the Lions played on this night, let’s not forget how talented head coach Mike Smith’s team is – with senior running back Byron Louis, one of the nation’s best, coming up with 149 yards and a touchdown – and University of Texas junior quarterback commit Dia Bell, who was amazing as he completed 18 of 26 passes for 270 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions.

As many will focus on the two teams being 1-2 after the first three weeks, they may want to take a step back and appreciate what transpired for three hours as some of America’s elite football prospects put on a show to remember.

Ranked Miami-Dade, Broward Teams In Crucial Games Tonight

As you already know when it comes to marquee games in south Florida, the #305 and #954 will take center stage with key matchups every week.

Because many schools are looking for that national recognition it has become vital for them to step up to the plate and make the schedule as competitive as possible.

Tonight, while there will be numerous games across the two counties – and beyond – there are three Top 20 matchups that we will be keeping our eye on.

After losing to nationally recognized teams in the first two weeks, Miami Christopher Columbus and Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas come into tonight’s contest at 1-1. This is a game that should be played every year – without question.

How good are the Miami Palmetto Panthers? Does Miami Southridge have a chance to win the district for the second time in three years? We will have the answer to those questions at around 10:30.

The final spotlight game will focus on two national powers. In a game that figured to be a matchup of unbeaten teams. Plantation American Heritage lost their open to national power Milton, Georgia, but bounced back last week.

Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna lost a tough Broward County National Showcase game against California’s St. John Bosco, but the Lions didn’t bounce back last week, dropping an overtime contest to Blanche Ely!

Unbeaten Archbishop McCarthy, St. Brendan Kickoff Week 3

After two weeks of the 2024 high school football season, both the Archbishop McCarthy Mavericks and the St. Brendan Sabres are unbeaten.

Tonight (7:00), the two schools, who are trying to take their game to the next level, will clash as the third week of the year begins at Archbishop McCarthy.

For both programs, the toughest part of their schedule is yet to come – with state and nationally rated teams ahead.

The Mavericks and head coach Dino Mangiero are members of Class 4A for the first time after several years as an independent.

For veteran head coach Steve Smith and his team, they are part of a competitive District 16-3A, which happens to have power Miami Northwestern, Miami Jackson and Key West. They are coming off a 7-4 season in 2023, losing to Miami Norland in the opening round of the 2M state playoffs.
