Gerald Modest Makes A Statement At The Pylon Training Camp Series.

FORT LAUDERDALE – There are some football prospects who avoid attending too many off-season events. Not Gerald Modest.

The rising senior running back at Miami Booker T. Washington has been the most visible athlete over the past few months, and no matter where he goes, this 6-0, 180-pound versatile running back turns heads and wins MVP awards.

On Sunday, Modest, who is being recruited by a number of schools, came to the Pylon Camp Series at St. Thomas Aquinas, and once again, he made a lasting impression.

Whether it was running drills and catching passes, this quality talent stood out.

“You watch a back like that and can’t overlook the fact that he has size, quickness and tremendous vision,” said Jerry Seymour, who handles the running backs at the event. “He glides and is tall which is something that college coaches certainly look for.”

Having someone like Modest at an event like Pylon is a huge boost to their logo and those who run the camps. Modest was a youth sensation and followed that up his freshman season by turning heads at Miami Edison.

While he had some growing up to do when he first arrived in high school, the move to play for the legendary Tim “Ice” Harris has truly changed everything about him.

With his running mate Antwan Smith, Modest has embraced his role as a versatile player who can create mismatches as a receiver as well as running backs.

“I attend these events to get better,” he said. “My objective is to get as much out of the off season as I can to get ready for my final season.”

The Rivals Camp Series, which stopped in Orlando, attracted a number of south Florida players from several schools – including Deerfield Beach which brought 15 players.

Head Coach Tramain Hall and his assistant coaches have some quality football players to work with this spring as they try and rebuild a program that dominated the public-school landscape for years.

In addition to several younger prospects, Deerfield Beach had two award winners who stood out as well:

2024 – Torra “TJ” Kelly Jr., DB, 5-11, 170, Deerfield Beach. One of the best kept secrets in south Florida the past few years, this is a gifted football player who puts in the work and is not afraid to compete against anyone. He is quick, athletic and will play safety at the next level, although his hips are fluid, and he is someone that defensive back coach Chad Wilson singled out a number of times during the event.

2024 – Elias Rudolph, Edge, 6-4, 215, Deerfield Beach. Welcome to the state of Florida young man as the Bucks will benefit from having this quality talent head south from Cincinnati Taft High School for his final year. Not only did he showcase his amazing skills as a defensive player at the camp, but he also played some receiver, which backs up how gifted this standout is now – and will be. Someone that has a reputation and that will continue to grow this off-season.

THE PYLON CAMP SERIES

The event consists of skills training and competition drills. Athletes train with some of the top coaches in the country. Throughout the entirety of the camp athletes were evaluated and tracked by wearable GPS technology. This technology will provide real-time data in various categories such as top-end speed, acceleration, other metrics. The data will be used to compile a player rating. Collegiate scouting services and college coaches will receive this data and ratings. Traditional combine drills are an outdated system in the evaluation process.

Young Zac Katz Shines At Pylon Training Camp Series

FORT LAUDERDALE - For the past seven months, when the name Zac Katz came up, there was plenty to say.

This Class of 2027 quarterback from Miami’s True North Classical Academy has been the talk of the competitive south Florida football world.

At the tender age of 13, competing against seasoned and talented high school football prospects, he threw for 2,847 yards, 34 Touchdowns, 76% completion ratio, QB rating 143.2, and ran for 206 yards 2 touchdowns.

He led his team, only in their fourth year of playing football, to the 1M state semifinals before losing to national powerhouse Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna.

His amazing season earned him second team All County and Honorable Mention All-State.

On Sunday, this now 14-year-old 6-1, 192-pounder, who sports a 3.7 grade point average, had the chance to showcase his amazing skills in front of coaches, instructors and other players as the Pylon Training Camp Series came to St. Thomas Aquinas High School.

With central Florida area quarterback instructor Baylin Trujillo guiding a solid group of talented prospects from across the state, Katz certainly showcased a strong and accurate arm and knowledge way beyond his years.

“This is a young man who will play Power 5 football,” Trujillo said. “I had watched him on tape, but it is nowhere like seeing him in person. He is indeed everything as advertised.”

Katz, who plays this off-season for Raw 7-on-7, is coached by Oliver Bozeman, who has done an amazing job of bringing this young man along.

While he has been talked about and many things have been written, very few people have watched him perform live. On Sunday, all eyes were indeed peeled to his drills and one-on-one exposure.

“This young man has a great future ahead,” Trujillo explained. “I suggest if you are a college coach that you start to watch him now – because he is definitely going to continue better – no doubt!”

MIAMI-DADE/BROWARD: 5 Class of 2025 Prospects To Keep An Eye On

When you attend events in the off-season you have a huge advantage of seeing some quality prospects up close and in person - often times uncovering some prospects that nobody has watched before.

We have gone over this time and time – because it is very important to be able to see these prospects that you are ranking and evaluating live. There is no getting around it.

If you are sending information to colleges or sharing it with fans, you are selling the athlete short by looking past what you see on film or by listening to others who are often watching the same video that you are viewing.

Football skills are very important, but so is character and grades – two important factors of recruiting that you cannot tell from sitting behind your computer, and that is something that EVERY college coach will tell you.

The reason we continue to bring that up is because so many do not watch these athletes at games, practices or even evaluation combines, which is so essential in the overall recruiting process. It is something that we will bring up over and over again, so EVERYONE understands that not every ranking or player evaluation that is valid.

Speaking about valid, south Florida’s (Miami-Dade and Broward) Class of 2025 rising juniors continue to make an impact as they grow and are getting ready for the spring.

Today, we bring you five players in the class that we continue to watch and promote to college coaches across the country.

Dylan Gill, OLB, 6-4, 200, Miami Killian. Ever since he was in the eighth grade, here is a tremendous prospect that we have kept our on - promoting his accomplishments as he grows and matures. While some list him as a safety and others were getting him out there as an Edge Rusher because of his size, this is someone who will end up playing Outside Linebacker for many reasons. Because of the many prospects who left the Cougars over the past two years, it may be to his benefit to get more of the spotlight.

TAPE: https://www.hudl.com/profile/15085517/Dylan-Gill

Jaquari “Trigg” Lewis, Slot/RB, 5-10, 170, Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna. Watching him at Fort Lauderdale Dillard, this is indeed someone who is versatile enough to help the Lions and a running back, where he has balance an breakaway speed - or as a slot receiver who has plenty of skill, runs outstanding routes and is often a mismatch. Also will make a difference as return specialist. Will be an asset to a team that has as much talent as anyone in the state.

TAPE: https://www.hudl.com/profile/16171821/Jaquari-Lewis

Ezekiel “EJ” Marcelin Jr., LB, 6-1, 200, Miami Central. Since he was a freshman starting for the Rockets in the state title game, this is certainly a prospect that everyone has kept an eye on. Not only is he a sure tackler, but his ability to drop into coverage makes him a linebacker who will attract plenty of attention. Reminds some of former University of Miami and NFL standout Sean Spence because of his size and ability to make plays. A true difference maker.

TAPE: https://www.hudl.com/video/3/17070413/61b097dc386d9a07dc1faba9

Joshua Moore, WR, 6-4, 175, Pembroke Pines West Broward. This is one of the prospects who backs up what we were talking about when seeing these young men live – and as far back at the end of his ninth grade year – we had the opportunity to watch him perform in a game. He followed that spring performance up with a head-turning trip to McCallie, Tennessee where he started to receive plenty of attention. As we head toward the 2023 season, there are very few people across the nation that do not have this impressive talent on their radar.

TAPE: https://www.hudl.com/profile/16678843/Joshua-Moore

Wilnerson Telemaque, DE, 6-6, 250, Miami Gardens Monsignor Pace. Another quality talent who started to turn heads as a freshman at Miami Northwestern, and by the end of his sophomore season with the Spartans, many college coaches knew exactly who he was. Has been a true difference maker this off-season as he continues to learn and make major strides. Will receive more and more attention this off-season and by the start of his junior year he will become a national recruit as he brings so much to the tables as a pass rusher and run stopper.
