There is no good news, bad news scenario for Miami’s Archbishop Carroll’s football program this year.
When the Bulldogs square off with national power Chaminade-Madonna in the state semifinals on Friday night in Hollywood, it will be the best news that this football program has enjoyed in a long time.
No matter what happens against the unbeaten Lions, just the opportunity to be playing in a game that will produce one of the teams for next week’s 1M title game in Tallahassee is what this sport is all about.
When veteran head coach Jorge Zagales and his team upended favorite Miami True North Classical Academy in the Region Finals, players and coaches were off to a place they had never been before.
As we have said before, while so many south Florida head coaches have the spotlight and reputation in their favor, it would be hard to find coaches and players who have played for him to say anything but positive things.
Zagales is indeed a throwback to the days of hard work and dedication to religion, work in the classroom and what his student/athletes accomplish h on the playing field.
Even down to his “old school” Wing-T offense, Zagales approaches the game with the passion and energy that he has done for over two decades.
Even though they come into Friday’s games as overwhelming underdogs, there will be no losers on this team. The experience of getting out what you put in is all he has ever asked for, and the Bulldogs have gotten so much out of the 2023 season.

WEST PALM BEACH - When Keiser University started their football program five years ago, head coach Doug Socha knew exactly how he was going to build the program into a power.
Competing at the NAIA level, this was a team that looked at the three gifted counties within an hour of the campus as a starting point.
From the very beginning success came to the Seahawks as they worked hard to build and recruit talent to compete against anyone in the nation.
Coming off a 10-4 season and a second-place national finish, this program has indeed turned heads. Even the national title game loss (35-25) to Northwestern College of Iowa last December only fueled the team in the off season.
With another competitive schedule, the Seahawks looked at 2023 as a year that this program could indeed in a national title, and while there were two setbacks to Division 2 powers during the season, they have reeled off eight consecutive wins as they will play host No. 7 Bethel, Tennessee this Saturday at 1 p.m. They beat Bethel 27-17 last year.
Coming off a convincing 45-21 win over St. Thomas University, this team is 9-2 and embraces the opportunity to move on in the playoffs.
MIAMI-DADE/BROWARD TALENT IS PRESENT
Part of the success of this football team is the off-season. Since opening the concentration of talent has come from Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties.

Destination Tallahassee continues this week in south Florida with Round 4 of the state football playoffs.
The state playoffs will showcase which programs paid the dues in May, June and July for the fruits that are paying off here in November.
The entire season, we have given you the top teams in Miami-Dade and Broward, and we will continue to bring you rankings right through the state championship games.

It was a game that everyone had looked forward to since the second week of October when Miami Norland beat four-time defending state champion Miami Central to win the district.
Last Friday – before a packed house at Traz Powell Stadium – the Region Finals took place and nobody expected anything less than a major talent show between the unbeaten Vikings and head coach Daryle Heidelburg and Jube Joseph and his 8-3 Rockets, who had lost the three setbacks by a total of 10 points.
With more upper-level college talent on one field than any other game nationally on this night, Norland raced out to a 28-7 lead, and while many felt this region championship was over, those who know football in Miami-Dade County saw an epic finish coming.
The Rockets rallied to tie the game and send it into overtime – where for the second time this season – the contest fell on the shoulders of sophomore kicker Noah Sidan, who won the first meeting.
After the Rockets failed to score in the overtime period, the Vikings and Sidan came through again, booting a 27-yarder.
In addition to that thriller, south Florida had seven other teams advance to this week’s state semifinals, which will feature a pair of first timers to reach this level of the state playoffs.

They have waited nearly six weeks for this district rematch to unfold – and now the wait is over.
Tonight (7:30), perhaps one of the biggest games in the state of Florida in the Region Finals will take place at Traz Powell Stadium.
The day after Thanksgiving, south Florida will indeed jump into the spotlight when two of the best teams will collide – and this time – winner will take all and move on to the 2M state semifinals.
In the first meeting, No. 2 Miami Central (8-3) and head coach Jube Joseph ran out to a 20-0 halftime lead, only to see that advantage evaporate and lose. That was six weeks ago, and in that time the Rockets blasted off, outscoring the opposition, 219-25.
This team is going for a fifth straight state championship, which would be an amazing accomplishment.
For the No. 1 Vikings (12-0), it has been a season of domination as head coach Daryle Heidelburg and his team has scored over 50 points seven times on the way to a 547-point season.
