South Dade Ready To Turn Things Around

Homestead South Dade

THE BUCCANEERS FILE

Head Coach: Coach Nate Hudson

2021 Record: 4-5

THE SCOOP

It’s no secret that the football program at South Dade has not been what many have been used to over the past few seasons.

Always in the mix for the playoffs, here is a program that has not performed like the teams in the past, but that could be changing.

As this team heads toward the spring, there is a sense that the talent is back in place – and while the senior class is stacked with playmakers – the future could definitely be defined by what this group of underclassmen is capable of accomplishing.

Loaded with gifted athletes, the young players in this program have the talent to get this train back on track in Homestead.

Here are some prospects to keep an eye on this coming season:

Junior Dolphins Surprise North Miami Girls Flag Football with Equipment Donation

MIAMI GARDENS – The Miami Dolphins Youth Programs hosted the Junior Dolphins Spring Donation presented by Dade County Federal Credit Union (DCFCU) surprising the girls flag football team of North Miami Senior High School with Dolphins gear, cleats, footballs and meals for the student athletes on Thursday, March 31.

“Thanks to our partnership with Dade County Federal Credit Union we can continue support, celebrate and empower young women in flag football,” said Miami Dolphins Senior Director of Community Relations & Youth Programs RaShauna Hamilton. “The Junior Dolphins and DCFCU are aligned in its efforts toward providing our next generation with the tools and resources they need to impact the youth of South Florida and set them up for success.

“This means a lot to the girls and the whole community. I’m speechless,” North Miami Senior High School Girls Flag Football Head Coach Louis Presume said.

This donation is in continuation of the Junior Dolphins ongoing initiative to impact 50 schools in five years. To date, the program has engaged with more than 15,000 high school football student athletes throughout South Florida working to transform lives and grow participation of boys and girls football teams.

The Junior Dolphins program encourages youth players and coaches to teach, learn and play football in a fun and safe environment. As stewards of the game, Junior Dolphins strive to grow participation in the game, impact the football community and build the next generation of Dolphins fans. Through strong community partnership and strategic resource distribution, all aspects of the Junior Dolphins program work to emphasize character building to increase the overall experience in youth football.

Monsignor Pace Getting Back On Track This Spring

Miami Monsignor Pace

THE SPARTANS FILE

Head Coach: Anthony Walker Sr.

2021 Record: 4-6

THE SCOOP

There is no getting around the fact that the 2021 season was strange – to say the least for the Spartans.

A coaching change followed by an up and down season, which ended with two losses – to Glades Central and Fort Pierce Central. Enter Anthony Walker Sr.

Having been around the school and program for years, helping to develop student/athletes along the way.

What Walker bring to this program is stability and knowledge of what it takes to succeed on and off the playing field.

The father of one-time Monsignor Pace standout, Anthony Walker Jr., who not only was an All-American in high school, but all Big-10 standout at Northwestern University and an impressive NFL career.

With plenty of talent, heading into the spring, this is a team to keep an eye on -with difference makers on both sides of the ball.

THE EXPLORERS FILE

Head Coach: Dave Dunn

2021 Record: 9-4

THE SCOOP

You can rattle off some of the top teams in south Florida and list their many accomplishments. But at the end of the day, when you put all those programs together, the Explorers deserve to be in that impressive group.

While the 2021 season ended with a loss at eventual 8A state champion Venice, the Explorers set the table for the future – using several young prospects with veterans who helped to go deep in the playoffs,

With a state title, a finals appearance and a Tri County Championship, this is a program that knows what it takes to get to that next level, and as we head toward spring, there are a number of impressive football players who are sure give this program a huge lift.

With veterans and newcomers coming together, 2022 should indeed be exciting – with a state title appearance as a reachable goal.

Dillard Ready To Get To The Next Level

Fort Lauderdale Dillard

THE PANTHERS FILE

Head Coach: Tyler Tate

2021 Record: 10-2

THE SCOOP

With 28 wins in the past three seasons, the Dillard Panthers have now established themselves as one of Florida’s top high school football programs – and it’s only going to get better.

Coming off a year where this team lost to 7A state champion Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas and to emerging south Florida power, Homestead, in the playoffs, the corner is being turned. But now, head coach Tyler Tate and his team need to take this thing to the next level and translate all those wins into a true race for a state title.

This is a team, loaded with football prospects in every class – and as the 2022 spring is almost here – winning games will be a priority – with plenty of talent and playmakers aboard.
