Stranahan Has A Chance To Be Special In 2022

THE DRAGONS FILE

Head Coach: Travis Harden

2021 Record: 7-5

THE SCOOP

When you look back at the 2021 season, you will notice that this team made some major strides.

While making the playoffs was certainly a goal at the start of the season, this team not only reached the post season, but beat Estero (37-0) in the opening round.

While losses to powerhouse 4A state champion Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons (37-8), Miramar (21-0), 3A state champion Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna (51-0) and the always tough Plantation American Heritage (35-0) in the regular season – and to then unbeaten Miami Killian (37-0) in the second round of the playoffs were tough, this team focused on the positives.

Wins against Coral Springs Taravella (44-0), Hallandale (54-6), Lauderdale Lakes Boyd Anderson (40-0), Jensen Beach (20-6), Boynton Beach (26-7) and longtime rival Fort Lauderdale (36-0) showed that this is a program that has the potential to do some impressive things in 2022.

Miami Northwestern Looks To Get Back To State Title Game In 2022

THE BULLS FILE

Head Coach: Max Edwards

2021 Record: 10-4

THE SCOOP

If you follow this football program you already know that the past two years were not easy times around Liberty City.

Losing to rival Miami Central was tough to take last season – and the Bulls did it twice. The second one was one of the worst setbacks (49-6) they suffered in a long time. But those two losses to the Rockets and the IMG defeat were not as tough as the game that kept this program from getting back to the state title game.

After reeling off playoff wins against Fort Myers (71-19), Naples (49-35) and Plantation (57-14), the matchup with Tampa Jesuit was one that they felt they could win – even though they were on the road against an unbeaten team that had already knocked St. Thomas Aquinas from the national picture.

The Bulls had been on such a roll, especially on offense, that they felt that the football they were playing was as good as anyone in 6A.

The 37-12 put a focus on 2022, and so far, the off-season has been all about rebuilding and getting this team ready for the upcoming season.

Miami Jackson Looks To Return To The ‘Glory’ Days

THE GENERALS FILE

Head Coach: John Harris

2021 Record: 2-8

THE SCOOP

For much of the past decade, Miami Jackson has watched football programs around them flourish – often times with players who belonged to the Generals.

Miami Edison, Miami Booker T. Washington, Miami Northwestern, Miami High and powerhouse Miami Central have done very well - while this once storied program has not advanced.

With veteran head coach John Harris, one of the best the school has ever produced, feeling his way back into the area landscape, this off-season has changed the course – with new coaches and prospects who could put this program back on the map.

Remember, Jackson has long been home to some quality football talent that runs deep – starting with the legendary Lee Corso and Joe Brodsky, but also Curry Burns, Elvis Dumervil, Lenny Harris, Elliott and Laverga Walker, Quinton Flowers, Cecile Johnson, David Little, Joe McCall, Fred Robinson, Mike Strachan and Harris among others.

This is a program that has tried a number of football coaches to turn things around, but what has gone on the past few months may see the interest shift back to Alapattah, and that has fans and alumni feeling pretty good.

Here is a look at some of the football talent that looks to change the fortune of this program:

CLASS OF 2023

Kaleb Barnet (DB, 5-11, 185)

Mamadou Cissokho (DT/OL, 6-5, 290)

George Colebrook (OL, 6-5, 315)

Damian Maturell (WR/LB, 5-10, 190)

Darius McDonald (DL)

Jamal McKinney (DB, 6-0, 185)

Eric Seay (Athlete)

CLASS OF 2024

Ezrin Green (OL, 6-5, 270)

Malcolm Johnson (SS, 6-2, 185)

CLASS OF 2025

Miami Palmetto Ready For The Challenge Once Again

 THE PANTHERS FILE

Head Coach: Mike Manasco

2021 Record: 9-3

THE SCOOP

It has now come to a point each year where this program is certainly in the mix for a state championship.

With top-flight prospects coming out of this program each season, college coaches have made this one of their regular stop in south Florida.

With two state playoff wins last season, it was that third game that left players, coaches and fans with a stinging feeling heading into the off-season.

While losses to unbeaten Miami Killian and Miami Christopher Columbus (GMAC Week) were tough to deal with, it was that second loss – in round three to Columbus that ended the season and gave this team plenty to deal with in the off-season.

TRACKING SOUTH FLORIDA – 2022

The one thing that we have done for over six decades is promote ALL football teams and prospects, and that will never change.

Giving every football team in Miami-Dade and Broward County their spotlight is something that other sources will not do. They are not worried about the teams and players who are off the grid. Their readers and followers do not care about the teams who didn’t win last year – or the players who are NOT on the radar screen.

What has always separated us from everyone is that prep school junior college or major college prospects are all important, and we treat them all that way. They work as hard to achieve their goals as the prospects who may not be on the lists of the “elite” programs across the country.

Our objective, by the start of the 2022 season, is to give everyone who plays in the two counties a chance to be recognized.

Here is a look at the programs in the two counties:
