Blanche Ely, Coach Mike Bailey Ready For A Turnaround

THE TIGERS FILE

Head Coach: Mike Bailey

2021 Record: 1-9

THE SCOOP

If you have followed high school football for any length of time, you know very well that what has been happening to the Tigers over the past decade is NOT what Tiger football is all about.

Once a yearly powerhouse, this program has declined – in a major way – with several athletes who could have turned things around, opting to go elsewhere. Enter Mike Bailey.

When he took over last year, this quality coached vowed to right the once potent ship, and as he heads into his second season, you can already see results this off-season as attitudes have changed and the athletes in the program are making that commitment.

With several new faces and a belief that hard work will change just about anything, the Tigers have had a solid spring and are very much looking forward to a productive summer.

Here is a look at some of the quality prospects ready to make a lasting impression:

Pompano Beach Continues To Compete On The Football Field

THE TORNADOES FILE

Head Coach: Johnathan Firth

2021 Record: 4-6

THE SCOOP

What this program has been able to do through the years is develop, teach and send student/athletes on to the next level. Nothing has changed.

As they continue to get it done this spring – with a game tonight at North Broward Prep – and through the summer – competing and winning football games have been part of what head coach Johnathan Firth and this team have been all about.

With college coaches visiting the campus this spring – and the team getting ready for the summer – getting to the .500 mark is certainly a mark that is realistic.

With wins over West Palm Beach Berean Christian (40-0), West Palm Beach Sports Leadership & Management (35-8), Boca Raton Spanish River (21-13) and Oakland Park Northeast (26-8), there is a sense that this team can make more improvement. Remember, they lost two games – one to Hollywood Hills (7-0) and the other to Marathon (10-9) where they had their chances.

With the summer on the horizon, here is a look at some of the prospects to keep an eye on:

It has gotten to the point in the town of Davie when the sport of football is mentioned, the Wildcats quickly enter the conversation.

THE VIKINGS FILE

Head Coach: Daryle Heidelburg

2021 Record: 5-5

THE SCOOP

While they won three of their final four games a year ago, the Vikings found themselves digging out of a hole that they fell into early in the season.

Immaculata LaSalle Is Back For More This Coming Season

THE ROYAL LIONS FILE

Head Coach: Helder Valle

2021 Record: 10-1

THE SCOOP

While the best season in school history came to a crashing halt in the first round of the state playoffs, the mood around this program is as high as it’s ever been.

After 10 straight wins in the regular season – which included victories over Coral Springs Charter (50-0), Miami Belen Jesuit (8-7), Immokalee (47-6), Homestead Everglades Prep (42-6), Miami St. Brendan (35-0), Somerset Academy South Homestead (47-6), Pembroke Pines Somerset Academy (23-3), Coconut Creek North Broward Prep (48-0), SW Ranches Archbishop McCarthy (41-8) and Fort Lauderdale Pine Crest (14-13), it was that rematch with Pine Crest – in the opening round of the state playoffs – that derailed the dream season.

The 10-7 setback may have dampened what was an amazing year, the Royal Lions headed into the off-season with a hollow feeling.

With the spring in full swing – and the summer coming up – keep an eye on this talented program once again in 2022.
