Ferguson, Coach Gene Chew Continue To Develop

THE FALCONS FILE

Head Coach: Gene Chew

2021 Record: 6-4

THE SCOOP

Here is a program that very few people in south Florida follow, but the job that Coach Chew has done over the years is amazing.

As the only head coach this school has head, he and his staff have always been about developing and teach – which is so overlooked in today’s high school football.

Through the years, while they have not been a power, the Falcons have maintained success and churned out their share of student/athletes.

By heading to off-season events at colleges and universities, the exposure has been impressive and schools have been taking notice.

Coming off another winning season – with wins over Hialeah Gardens (26-0), Miami Coral Park (13-6), Miami Varela (21-7), Doral Ronald Reagan (14-0), Southwest Miami (27-26) and Hialeah (35-6), keep an eye on this program in 2022 with several keep athletes in all classes.

To Improve, Miami Beach Needs To Work Hard In The Summer

THE HI TIDES FILE

Head Coach: Alex Terry

2021 Record: 6-3

THE SCOOP
After winning six times last season, this program got together and started to dedicate themselves to getting better and taking it one step further in 2022.

Part of that process includes year-round work and having each and every prospect be accountable for what they do and accomplish in the off-season.

With solid coaching and plenty of talent, the name of the game will be finding depth. That was a major reason that this team did not accomplish the goals they set at the start of the season.

Remember, this is a football program that has more than its share of success throughout the years, churning out some quality talent along the way. To get back to the place where they were knocking heads with some of south Florida’s best, there has to be a continued commitment, and it starts this summer.

After a solid spring – with college coaches on campus – here is a look at some of the prospects to keep an eye on this summer and moving forward into the fall:

CLASS OF 2023

Garret Augustin (DT/OL, 6-4, 240)

CLASS OF 2024

Plantation Is Ready To Contend Once Again

THE COLONELS FILE

Head Coach: Steve Davis

2021 Record: 9-3

THE SCOOP

While their season ended with a 57-14 setback at Miami Northwestern, the way that this program got to the third round of the state playoffs was indeed very impressive.

With an early season loss to Coconut Creek, even in the second week of the season, turned out to be the district title game, this team rallied and went on to make quite a splash.

After that loss to Coconut Creek, the Colonels won eight of nine games, losing only to Fort Lauderdale Dillard in a thrilling 41-40 game.

Along the way, this program came up with regular season wins against South Miami (44-7), Hollywood Hills (40-0), Sunrise Piper (42-19), Lauderdale Lakes Boyd Anderson (51-8), Miramar Everglades (61-0), Oakland Park Northeast (48-0) and rival South Plantation (61-0).

The opening round of the playoffs was perhaps the biggest win this program has had in over a decade, knocking off No. 1 seed unbeaten Fort Myers Dunbar (44-20) and getting back at Coconut Creek (42-7) before dropping the third-round contest in Miami.

As they look toward the 2022 season, this is a team that has the talent to compete once again – with key returnees and some newcomers.

Miami Killian Back For More This Season

 THE COUGARS FILE

Head Coach: Bryce Bishop

2021 Record: 12-1

THE SCOOP

They had built a team in just one year that was easily among the best in the state of Florida.

Finishing the regular season 10-0, the Cougars took care of everyone on the schedule and earned a No. 1 seed in the state playoffs, beating Fort Myers Cypress Lake (60-0) and Fort Lauderdale Stranahan (37-0).

The lone defeat came in the third round of the state playoffs to powerhouse Miami Central – when the Rockets took them down, 39-13.

Fast forward to the off-season where head coach Derrick Gibson moved on to the next level as a coach at FAU – and enter another former Cougar, Bryce Bishop.
