Hialeah American Looks To Improve Over 2021

 THE PATRIOTS FILE

Head Coach: Tim Neal

2021 Record: 4-6

THE SCOOP

There are very few people who know this program and what it takes to build like Coach Neal, who returned home to find a rebuilding project.

While the job is a daunting one, this is someone who has continued to teach and develop through the years, producing some quality talent along the way.

For the Patriots to turn things around, they will need this off-season for the prospects to commit themselves to getting better.

As they looked back on 2021, this was a team that had their chances against schools such as Miami Braddock (10-7) and Westland Hialeah (23-20), which were two setbacks that could have out them over .500, so there is plenty to be excited about.

Wins over Miami Braddock (17-7), Miami Sunset (30-6), Hialeah Gardens (21-7) and North Miami Mourning (29-0) gave this team some much needed confidence as they move forward.

With spring now behind them, summer will be very important as prospects emerge and mature, giving this program a chance to improve when fall rolls around.

Here is a look at some of the student/athletes who figure to make an impact:

Somerset Silver Palms Ready For The Off-Season

THE STALLIONS FILE

Head Coach: Javi Valdes

2021 Record: 3-6

THE SCOOP

If you follow high school football in south Florida, you already know the many contributions that Javi Valdes has made at his several stops as a coach.

This is one of the ultimate teachers who gets the most out of the roster he has.

Coming off a disappointing season in 2021, it was more about the three wins to start the season rather than dwelling on the six games that this program lost to end the year.

A playoff team in the past, the victories against Miami Braddock (30-0), Homestead Everglades Prep (52-6) and Miami Westminster Christian (24-0) overshadowed the losses to four playoff teams.

With an emphasis on the off-season, this program looks forward to the summer - where camps, combines and 7-on-7 events will take center stage along with college visits.

Here is a look at some of the prospects to keep an eye on:

Hollywood Hills Continues To Develop & Teach

THE SPARTANS FILE

Head Coach: Brandon Graham

2021 Record: 5-5

THE SCOOP

Having been around the program for decades, head coach Brandon Graham knows the drill by now.

He has been around through some good times as well as those rough patches.

Through the years, the landscape of football has changed dramatically, no matter how you try to keep up with it.

While getting caught up with holding on to your players can often be out of your control, the veteran coach has changed course and is using his experience in the game as a reason to play football for the Spartans.

What it comes down to is developing and teaching as well as exposing your student/athletes to camps, combines and 7-on-7 events as an enhancement to what is being taught year-round at the school.

Building on a .500 season which included wins against Pompano Beach (7-0), Oakland Park Northeast (22-7), Davie Nova (14-0), Pembroke Pines Charter (21-6) and Miramar Everglades (28-13), this team heads into the summer with plenty of optimism and a belief that improvement is key.

Miami Southridge Shows Promise With A Solid Spring

THE SPARTANS FILE

Head Coach: Rick Munne (Pierre Senatus in the fall)

2021 Record: 4-6

THE SCOOP

While the 2021 season ended with a 4-6 record, this spring certainly changed the negative thinking in the community with the fans.

This is a program that came out on top against Greenacre John I. Leonard (26-7), Hialeah (49-6), Hialeah Gardens Mater Academy (47-6) and South Miami (38-30) in a year that started to shape up at times.

When practice began this spring there was plenty of optimism as players, coaches and fans started to feel that progress was being made.

With a solid performance in the Palm Beach Gardens Spring Classic, there was indeed reason to be pleased at what had transpired. The Spartans played hard and showed that things could even get better during the summer.

While many still remember the glory years of this one-time powerhouse, they understand that to get back to that point, a lot of hard work and sacrifices will have to be made.

Here is a look at some of the prospects to keep an eye on this summer:

CLASS OF 2023

Damari Charlton (QB/Athlete, 6-1, 185 – 2.5 GPA)

Phillip Jones (Athlete, 6-1, 235 – 2.45 GPA)

Marcus Simmons (DB, 5-11, 165 – 2.9 GPA)

Joseph Simpson (WR, 6-0, 180)

Jalan Toomer (LB, 6-0, 230 – 2.9 GPA)

Demetrius Watts (DL, 6-1, 225)

CLASS OF 2024
